The UN General Assembly approved by overwhelming majority to ratify the decision of the Council on Human Rights to eliminate the US-imposed mandate against Cuba in this regard.
The demise of the said instrument, which called for the appointment of a special HHRR investigator for Cuba, was approved by 168 votes in favor, 7 against and 3 abstentions in the UN Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee.
"This is a historic victory for Cuba," Cuban Ambassador to the UN Rodrigo Malmierca said at the end of the voting.
"Once and for all, we are burying all vices and bad practices, including target selection, double standards and political manipulation, which plunged the late Human Rights Commission into discredit," he added.
