Havana Province has conferred "The Sleepless Eye" literary award to writer Ricardo Alberto Pérez Estévez for his lifetime work. The prize will be presented next November 22, in Jaruco City, on the occassion of the Havana Province Writers Day.

The poet, translator and essayist from Jaruco had previously received awards like "David 1989", "The Critics 1993, "The Gazette of Cuba 2001 and 2003", "Nosside Caribbean 2005" and the "Nicolas Guillen National Poetry Award 2007."

The Book and Literature Provincial Center and the "Felix Pita Rodriguez" Literature Promotion Center established "The Sleepless Eye" award in October 14, 2004.

Pérez Estévez writes the scripts a program called "Poetry," aired by "Radio Progreso" national radio station. He is a member of the Organizing Committee of the Havana Province Poetry Festival.

Cuban, Brazilian and Chilean printing houses have published his thirteen books. He is currently coordinating the "Letters Tower" project, sponsored by the Cuban Book Institute.

Perez Estevez is running a literary and artistic project for the Jaruco Department of Senior Adult Education. He teaches contemporary literature at the local Municipality University and is also engaged in literary workshops.

The award conferred to the artist from Jaruco consists of five thousand Cuban pesos. He will also receive a diploma made in cloth by students of the "Eduardo Abela Villareal" Provincial School of Plastic Arts, located in San Antonio de los Baños.

Poet Encarnación de Armas and writer and journalist Miguel Terry Valdespino had received "The Sleepless Eye" award in 2005 and 2006 respectively.
