Cuban chess player Fidel Corrales in place 22 of World Junior Championship

The International Master (IM) Fidel Corrales Discreto, from Cuba, reached the position 22 after he shared the victory during the eleventh round of the World Chess Championship in Erevan, Armenia.

According to the Cuban News Agency, Corrales played with with black pieces in front of his homologous Hindu Narayapan Gomal to obtain 6.5 points, with which he improved a position.

This advance was the third shared victory of Fidel Corrales, who in spite of obtaining a result below his level, he has shown capacity in all his matches and won five of them. The data, published by website of the competition, specify that of the three players at the top only the Russian Grand Master (GM) Ivan Popov could maintain that position, because he arrived at 8.5 points when he defeated the local IM Avetik Grigoryan, one of those that accompanied him in the first place.

The Chinese GM Hao Wang, who tied with the Russian GM Dmitry Andreikin, obtained eight units and is the second together his homologous Gregor Meier, from Germany, and Ahmed Adly, from Egypt.

The women at the top are the Polish GM Jolanta Zawadzka and those IM Dronavalli Harika from India and Vera Nebolsina from the Russia.
