Abel Prieto at the 10th Meeting of the International Network on Cultural Policies in Spain

Cuba's Minister of Culture, Abel Prieto, called for the establishment of mechanisms to care for cultural diversity during the 10th Meeting of the International Network on Cultural Policies, which concluded Saturday in Seville, Spain.
Delegations from 43 European, American, African, and Asian countries, plus international organizations, attended the INCP meeting.
The Cuban minister urged to seek evidence of progress in the preservation of the cultural diversity, as it is done with biological diversity.
"It is necessary to learn," he noted, "how racist and xenophobic maneuvers, free trade agreements and other hegemonic instruments for the commodification of culture conspire against cultural identity."
Debates at the 10th INCP meeting focused on international support of the UNESCO Convention on the preservation and promotion of cultural diversity.
