Havana City Historian gets UN World Habitat 2007 Award
The Historian of the City of Havana, Eusebio Leal was given the UN-World Habitat 2007 Award, according to the world institution.

Sources from the Office of the City Historian located in colonial Havana, said that Eusebio Leal valued the significance that the "United Nations recognizes Cuba's efforts in the recovery of Old Havana".

In a press note, the International Committee unanimously agreed to give the award to Leal, "for his years of charismatic leadership, dedication to the restoration and conservation of Havana's Historic Center.

The award was created in 1989 by the UN Human Settlements Program and is considered one of the most important international recognition in human habitat".

The distinction, given annually, will be officially given to Eusebio Leal during celebrations of World Habitat Day to be held on October 5th in Monterrey, Mexico.

In addition to being the City Historian of Havana since 1967, Eusebio Leal is a Member of Parliament and National Labor Hero of the Republic of Cuba as well as Good Will Ambassador to the UN.
