Seven cubans athletes, tickets in hand to the finals of World Athletics 2007

Seven major Cuban athletes of track and field have their tickets assured, while another four are on the waiting list for the IAAF World Athletics Finals 2007, to be held between September 22-23 in Stuttgart, Germany.

The seven athletes confirmed are hurdler Dayron Robles, triple-jumpers Yargelis Savigne and Osniel Tosca, javelinists Sonia Bisset and Guillermo Martinez, hammer-thrower Yipsi Moreno and shot-putter Yumileidi Cumbá.

According to the website of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), the right to be at the top world championship s is won by those who ranked in the first seven places according to the sum of the points accumulated in a circuit of competitions parallel to the Grand Prix and the Golden League.

Likewise, the IAAF reserves the right to give special invitations, or "wild cards" to athletes of every sport.

Dayron is being placed second on the 110 meter hurdles list, which is headed by American athlete Anwar Moore. After the Cuban athlete are, in this order, Ryan Wilson, Aries Merrit and David Payne, all from the US; Chinas Liu Xiang, an Olympic champion and world-record holder; and another American; Terrence Trammel.

Yargelis Savigne is third in an exclusive group headed by Slovene Marija Sestak and the veteran Russian Tatyana Lebedeva, whom Savigne defeated twice - in Osaka and more recently in Rieti, Italy.

Sonia Bisset is fourth in her group, preceded only by three athletes: Czech Barbora Spótaková and Germans Christina Obergfoll and Steffi Nerius.

Meanwhile, Yipsi Moreno was fifth in her group headed by Polands Kamila Skolimowska. Another Cuban athlete, Arazay Thondike, appears on this list in ninth place and can apply for a "wild card," since Russian Tatyana Lysenko is still on the list, though an action to suspend him for doping is pending.

Osniel Tosca is seventh and Guillermo Martínez is sixth, as is Olympic champion Yumileidi Cumbá. The other Cuban athletes waiting for invitations from the IAAF are shot-putter Misleydis González, discus throwers Yania Ferrales (eighth) and Yarelis Barrios (tenth).
