Cuban baseball debuts with 2-1 win in the Port Cities Tournament, Amsterdam
The Cuban baseball team taking part in the Port Cities Tournament in Amsterdam, made its debut with a 2-1 victory over Chinese Taipei Thursday.

A homerun with one on base by Cuban third baseman and fifth hitter Donal Duarte in the 7th, allowed the Cuban team to overcome the 0-1 score since the 3rd inning.

Cuban starting pitcher Vladimir Banos permitted four hits and a single run in eight innings, and left-hand relief pitcher Arleys Sanchez finished.

Cuba lined up with Carlos Tabares (CF), Hector Olivera (2b), Alexei Bell (rf), Yosvani Peraza (DH), Donal Duarte (3b), Jose Julio Ruiz (1b), Osvaldo Arias (c), Yasser Gomez (lf) and Rudy Reyes (ss).

Victor Mesa, Cuban team manager, allowed as many players as possible to play in the match, and used Alexander Ayala, Roberquis Videaux and Alfredo Despaigne as pinch hitters.

Japan and the US played their match Thursday, and the local team will make its debut on Friday.

Cuba will match Japan Friday, have a day off on Saturday, to play Holland on Sunday, and the US on Monday.

The tournament will be played in two rounds to finish August 12, with a match for first place between the top two teams classified.
