Cuban government officials meet with participants of the General Assembly of the Latin American Episcopal Council
Cuban Vice Presidents Carlos Lage and Esteban Lazo met on Wednesday in Havana with several of the participants to the 31st General Assembly of the Latin American Episcopal Council, headed by the Archbishop of Aparecida, Brazil and President of CELAM Monsenior Raymundo Damasceno Assis, and Archbishop of Havana, Cardinal Jaime Ortega.

The meeting, held in a respectful and constructive environment, served to exchange ideas on the reality of the island and the difficulties the Cuban people have had to face due to Washington's blockade and the economy as well as the cooperation programs underway with other Latin American nations.

Those present agreed on the need to continue the training of professions in Latin America aimed at strengthening human values and the conservation of their believes, traditions and customs.

The representatives of the Latin American Episcopal Council and the Episcopal Conferences expressed gratitude towards Cuba for hosting the General Assembly which wound up on Friday with a mass at the Cathedral of Havana.
