Alfredo Guevara

Alfredo Guevara, president of the Havana Latin American Film Festival, ratified the condition of the event as continuator of that held in Viña del Mar, Chile, in 1967 when filmmakers of the region met for the first time.

Thus, they started recognizing themselves as leaders of the same cinematographic movement, concerned on their epoch and as innovative intellectuals committed with the Latin American liberation, highlighted a letter issued on Monday in Havana.

That explains, the document added, the fact that Viña del Mar 67 declared Che Guevara as president of that event and that since it honored him, the festival marked the new Latin American Cinema, founded there as avant-garde conscience and movement of our cultures.

Issued by the organizing committee, the letter is addressed to participants and invited guests to the event set for December 5-15.

According to its president, the New Latin American Film Festival has tried to provide a space for the talent and innovative spirit of young creators in the region.

Once again Havana expects to become the capital of regional cinematography, the capital of Latin American arts.
