The best work in research at the University of Havana in 2006 was recognized on Wednesday in the Main Hall in act presided over by the schools president, Rubén Zardoya Loureda.

During the ceremony it was noted that of the 47 works recognized, 11 deserved of the «special category.»

Studies noted included work on led by Dr. Carlos Peniche Covas on Quitina and Quitosana, which was said to constitute remarkable scientific-technical progress of great significance and originality, while its author was selected as one of the five most outstanding professionals in the scientific field.

The synthetic vaccine against the type B Haemophilus influenza, developed by a team at the Center of Synthetic Antigens, received an award for results that have already been put into practice.

Recognized also were the best articles and books published in the different scientific fields. The outcome of the recognized research has been applied to increase economic impact and income generated from the works have benefited the Ministry of Higher Education.
