Telesur
The Telesur satellite television channel will participate in Havanas New Latin American Cinema Festival for the first time, supporting Latin American and Caribbean audiovisual creators with an award for the Best Documentary from the South, to be disputed between 150 documentary films in competition.

The festival opens Tuesday evening and continues through December 15, with hundreds of full length and short films to be shown at over a dozen Havana movie theatres from 10:00 a.m. to midnight.

The presence of the regional TV channel in the festival takes place as part of an agreement between Telesur and the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC) to boost production and promotion of independent film making in the area.

The award includes the showing of the winning documentary on Telesur.

Telesur president, Andres Izarra, will announce the prize on December 13 in a ceremony scheduled for the landmark Hotel Nacional in Havana, the festival headquarters.

The jury for the award is made up by Puri Faget, chair of the documentary department of the San Antonio de los Banos Latin American Film and TV School located on the outskirts of Havana; Waldo Ramirez, president of the National Exhibition of New Filmmakers of Cuba; and Nohra Rodriguez, director of the Latin American Content of Telesur.
