A cycle of lectures on the life and work of 26 winners of the Nobel Prize of Literature by local specialists, critics and writers began in Holguin.

The cycle that will end next August 30th is sponsored by the Book Center of Holguin province and the Pedro Ortiz Dominguez Literary Promoter.

Specialist Ana Maria Osorio was the first in speaking on the Swedish writer Selma Lagerlof the Nobel Prize winner in 1909, who was the first woman in reaching the top reward of Universal Letters. Jerusalem is one of this author's most eulogized works.

Among the Nobel Prize winners included in this cycle are narrators, playwrights and poets, as Rabindranath Tagore, the first Indian and Asian figure in receiving the Nobel Prize of Literature, the same as Chilean Gabriela Mistral that became the first Latin American in receiving it in 1945.

In this special proposal of the Provincial Book and Literature Center in Holguin are also included American William Faulkner, Russian Mikhail Sholokhov, Guatemalan Miguel Angel Asturias, Colombian Gabriel Garcia Marquez, South African Nadine Gordimer and Portuguese Jose Saramago.

The cycle will close in August 30th with a lecture on the Chinese artist, playwright and novelist Gao Xingjian that reached the Nobel Prize of Literature in the year 2000, thus becoming the first writer in Chinese language in receiving it. Soul Mountain is one of his best works.
