Fruits Cuba
As part of a nationwide initiative to increase the consumption of fruit, an agricultural contingent based in Las Tunas province has the distinction of having planted some 120 species of fruit out of the 160 recognized in Cuba by botany experts.

Their work has also been focused on the recovery and propagation of species that were facing the danger of extinction.

Since its foundation on October 28, 1995, the Vicente Garcia Agricultural Contingent has sown 680 hectares of land with fruit trees and has harvested more than 313,000 tons of produce, as well as green and root vegetables. This was despite the difficult conditions created by Washington's blockade of the island and the severe drought that has affected Las Tunas province for the last ten years.
