Chess Tournament Capablanca in Memoriam

The chess international tournament Capablanca in Memoriam, scheduled for this month in Havana, will be attended by world-class foreign players.

According to experts, the Elite group of the event will have the category XVII of the International Chess Federation, considering the ELO score of the competitors.

They added that this year's competition will have an average ELO score of 2,653 points, as it will be attended by Grand Master (GM) Vassily Ivanchuk, who ranks seventh in the world and won the tournament in 2005.

Other participants are Grand Masters Evgueny Bareev (Russia), Kamil Milton (Poland) and Leinier Domínguez and Lázaro Bruzón (Cuba). The sixth Grand Master might be Cuba's Jesús Nogueiras.

However, if a fourth foreign player with a higher ELO score takes part in the tournament, the event would have a category XVIII.

In addition, more than 50 players, including 27 Cubans, are expected to play in the Open group, which will compete for the first time this year.
