Florida municipality consolidates food production in former sugar cane fields

The programs intended to boost the food productions, in terrains that were occupied by sugar cane plantations in the past is today a priority that begins to give fruits at the Ignacio Agramonte Sugar Cane Company, in the municipality of Florida, western Camagüey.
Among the different programs under way, the most important is that one related to the building up 16 urban vegetable farms, out of which 11 are functioning at the moment.
For a continue and growing production of vegetables in these farms, a stock of machinery is guaranteed to assure an appropriate irrigation.
In addition, there is an increase of the production of fruits, poultry and cattle, which allows a growth in the sales of milk to the dairy industry.
