Lung surgery

The first lung transplant in Cuba was performed in 1989 by a team of experts in the Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital in Havana. Three heart-lung transplants were also performed there between 1986 and 1990 by Dr. Noel Gonzalez.

A program on lung transplant was started in January 2005 at the Center of Medical Surgery Research (CIMEQ), and two successful operations have since been conducted.

Lung surgery and lung hypertension will be discussed at Neumosol 2007. There will be a keynote lecture on the subject by Dr. Manuel Sarduy Paneque, Head of Department in the Lung Treatment Hospital of Havana, and an authority in the field.

Other debates will include those on severe and chronic pneumonia, lung cancer and chest surgery, Dr Telma Audain, head of the Organizing Committee, told acn.
