Daniel Montes, Stamp Collector

Cuban Daniel Montes, 18, became the best young stamp collector of the world in 2006, when concluding the World Stamp Collecting Exhibition in Malaga, Spain, Granma newspaper reported Monday.

Montes won the prestigious award with his collection "Cuba colonial, "which includes stamps from the Caribbean island during the 19th century.

After evaluating hundreds of works from 72 countries, judges highlighted excellence, high command of the issue and research by the Cuban exhibitor, the daily reports.

The award represents a notable achievement for the National Philately Federation. Montes has had the higher score of a young philatelist in several world events.

Another young Cuban philatelist awarded in Spain was Adrian Fernandez, 15, who received the Vermeil medal for his collection "Pre-philatelic Cuban Postal Marks"
