A group of Cuban specialists are in Japan to learn modern rice-growing techniques which will be later implemented in the island.

These techniques focus in the increase of yields in small parcels, reports Periodico 26 Online.

The experts are being trained in the city of Tsukuba, one of the most important scientific centers in Japan with 215 institutions.

The course is sponsored by the Japanese Agency for International Cooperation. It consists of lectures and practical work which include soil preparation, sowing and harvesting in an experimental area.

Japan grows the rice for domestic consumption in only 200.000 hectares divided into parcels where there is a high level of mechanization.
