Obtaining in Cuba a recombining enzyme to diagnose infectious diseases in humans, animals, and vegetables is a new achievement by the Cuban scientists.

The novel attainment, called Amplicen, was conceived by genetics engineers of the National Agricultural Health Center (CENSA).

This enzyme is part of the chain reaction of polymerase, and its main characteristic is that few samples are necessary to diagnose diseases.

Another advantage is that it allows reducing the import costs of this product, and making this process cheaper.

CENSA doctor Siomara Martinez explained that Amplicen was already tested at the Medical Genetics Center to detect hereditary illnesses, as cystic fibrosis.

Other tests were practiced in hospitals to diagnose contagious diseases.

The enzyme is also used in criminology, to clarify rape cases, because it allows identifying the culprit's DNA.

Martinez told Granma daily that Amplicen was recognized in the most recent National Science and Technology Forum.
