Cuba works to save Havana Harbor

The State Group for the Cleanup, Preservation and Development of Havana Harbor fosters actions on Tuesday to save the port of Havana, the most important in the country.
According to a note published by "Granma" newspaper today, different actions are being implemented in the zone to reduce pollution in that ecosystem and improve people s quality of life.
Among actions are collection and deposit of wastes from ships by using specialized vessels and adopting a contingency plan against spillage of hydrocarbons, based on established international regulations.
Also on the list is the extraction of sunken ships and ancient docks, and cleaning-up of Luyano River, one of the most polluted, whose works include the construction of a sewage treatment plant.
