New water system
Over a five year period, Cuba will dedicate about 60 million dollars to restore damaged hydraulic networks in the capital and three provinces of the country.

In Havana alone, some 12.62 miles of pipes and conductors must be restored, Jesus Hernandez, vice president of the National Hydraulic Resources Institute, told Juventud Rebelde newspaper on Tuesday.

The project, which will also be implemented in the eastern Cuban provinces of Camaguey, Las Tunas and Holguin, was approved by the government due to large losses in the conduction line, estimated at over 55 percent.

Vice President Carlos Lage pointed out this is the first time the country has the opportunity to restore the city's aqueduct system, which will represent a better water supply to its over two million people and a greater saving of the resource.
