Cuba Increases rural TV access
Cuba now has 1,935 functional television salons installed in rural zones, with Wednesday s opening of another seven rooms in Pilon, a municipality in the eastern province of Granma, south-eastern Cuba.
Local authorities indicated the importance of these television salons to contribute to the region s cultural development, public information and debate and to the social life in isolated communities.
These spaces are also used for physical rehabilitation and the work of teachers, doctors and cultural promoters who, supported by TV programs and didactic material, to improve quality of life and recreation, reduce alcohol consumption, smoking, and transmission of sexual diseases.
Granma Province is a pioneer and the one demonstrating major results in the installation of TV-video theaters.
