Cuba and Guatemala expressed their willingness to increase cooperation in several fields on Friday.

"We have identified areas of cooperation in risk management and community development from Cuba's experience in the last few years," said Cuban Deputy Minister for Foreign Investment and Economic Collaboration, Orlando Requeijo, at the fifth Joint Intergovernmental Committee.

The Cuban official also pleaded for continuing bilateral collaboration in sports, health and other fields.

There are currently 315 Cuban doctors working in 17 Guatemalan departments, where two ophthalmology centers, with Cuban technology and staff, have been inaugurated, and thousands of patients have undergone surgery.

Guatemala s Presidential Planning Secretary Patricia Orantes thanked the Cuban government and people for their support in the last ten years, despite the US-imposed blockade on the Caribbean Island, which she described as illegal.
