Vice President of Guatemala
Advances in relations and commitments to broaden trade and cooperation seal Guatemalan Vice President Eduardo Stein s official visit to Cuba, which is concluding Saturday after four days of intensive activities.

Stein arrived on the island October 25 heading a delegation of public officials and businesspeople.

This is Stein s first visit as vice president of his country, after coming as foreign minister of President Alvaro Arzu (1996-2000), when the government renewed bilateral diplomatic relations in 1998.

Before leaving today, Stein is due to be welcomed by his Cuban counterpart Carlos Lage at the Council of State, while businesspeople of his delegation will stay here to attend the Havana International Fair.

His wish of prompt recovery for President Fidel Castro, convalescent from complicated intestinal surgery, was one of his statements that defined the good level of links between Havana and Guatemala.

In his encounter with Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque, the Guatemalan official, on behalf of his administration, expressed gratitude for the work the Cubans are carrying out in his country in health, sports, education and other areas.

In addition to official contacts at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Stein also met with Tourism Minister Manuel Marrero, Foreign Trade Minister Raul de la Nuez and Food Industry Minister Alejandro Roca.
