Organizers of the 2008 Cycling Tour to Cuba are studying the possibility to dispute the race from west to east, to restore the emotion lost in the last years.

Jose Pelaez, president of the Cuban Cycling Federation, admitted this choice is quite attractive since cycling is more passionately followed in the eastern provinces, since the event traditionally ends in the western part of the country, especially in the capital.

The 1976 Cycling Tour to Cuba was the only one disputed backwards in the history of the event: from the western province of Pinar del Rio to the eastern village of Baracoa, an edition in which World Champions Ryzard Skurkowsi (Poland) and Eduard Papp (Soviet Union) took part.

Despite a big summoning of the Cuban Tour, in the last years people have paid little attention in the capital.

Veteran sportscaster Rene Navarro suggested the Cuban Tour should be ended in places where there is a greatest number of cycling fans, such as Guanajay or Guines (Havana), and mentioned the poor diffusion to the visit of famous runner Eddy Merckx (Belgium) when he visited Cuba last year.

The 32nd Cuban Cycling Tour will have the participation of teams from Mexico, Venezuela, Panama, Ecuador, Germany, Austria, and Canada.
