Chucho Valdés

A number of star musicians performed in the Auditorium theatre Amadeo Roldán under the direction of Cuban jazz Maestro Jesús (Chucho) Valdés during the inaugural gala of the International Festival Jazz Plaza running in Havana until Dec. 3.

Innovative versions and classic pieces filled out a well-thought repertoire, whose interpretation earned frequent long standing ovations.

The concert of notable tres guitarist Pancho Amat and laud player Bárbaro Torres paired with Chucho and members of the Quartet Yarolde Abreu (congas), Lázaro Rivero (bass) and Juan Carlos (drums).

Also high in popularity was the performance of singer Lázaro Morúa due to the nice effect of his vocal register and harmonica blowing.

The trail of virtuosism of Irakere bands former and current members;
Germán Velazco, Javier Zalba and César López (sax), Yasek Manzano and Basilio Márquez (trumpet) as well as Canadian guest artist Hugh Fraser (trombone) shone on stage.

Outstanding jazz singer Mayra Caridad Valdés, Jorge Reyes (bass), Omar Puente (violin) and young musicians Tamara Castañeda and her band, Quartet Vocal Sexto Sentido, Leyanis Valdés (piano) together with Gala Mayor and junior percussionist Yessie Valdés followed.

Scenarios of Mella Theater and Casa de la Cultura de Plaza in Havana joined Casa de la Música of Varadero in Matanzas to offer a spectacular four night jazz session.

All those programs comprise the 23rd edition o fan event prestiged with representatives of South Africa, Canada, Czech Republic, Mexico, Colombia, Bolivia, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Spain, Serbia, EE.UU, Sweden and the host country.
