The 16th Fiesta de la Cubanía will take place in Bayamo

<p style="text-align: justify;">10/10/2010. Cuban artists and intellectuals will stared the 16th Fiesta de la Cubanía between the next 17th and 20th of October in this Eastern city dedicated to the National Culture Day. Carried out yearly since 1994 in the capital city of Granma province, the meeting will celebrate the 142th anniversary of the beginning of independence wars and the first time the National Anthem was sung. In Rome, Brazil walks over Cuba and makes history winning third Volleyball World Cup

Sparks kicks off UA’s Cuba Week

<p style="text-align: justify;">TUSCALOOSA | Trade between Alabama and Cuba is an important part of the state’s agriculture industry, with an economic impact of $300 million to $400 million, State Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries Ron Sparks said Sunday. Alabama started trading with Cuba in 2003. When Sparks initiated trade with the country after an embargo was loosened by the federal government in 2000. With Cuba only 600 nautical miles from Mobile, trade with the country makes financial sense, Sparks said. “The opportunities in Cuba are many,” said Sparks, also the Democratic candidate for governor. “In my mind, there were three words: jobs, jobs, jobs.” Read More

1200 new marine species identified

<p style="text-align: justify;">After ten years of research, a team of scientists announced in London the largest global study of marine species that contributed 1200 new species of a total of 250 000 classified. Known as the first Census of Marine Life will, it will help to determine how human activity is affecting areas previously unexplored of ecosystems under the sea floor. The study, the most comprehensive of its kind, involved more than 2.700 researchers from 80 countries, conducted 540 expeditions in 9000 days at sea. Read More

Alicia Alonso to Receive Tribute from Royal Ballet
