Prensa Latina convoked all press media in the world to vote in the 43rd edition of its annual sports poll to choose the best Latin American and Caribbean athletes in 2006.

Begun in 1964, media select the most outstanding athletes of Latin America and the Caribbean in individual and teams, in both sexes, and the ten best will receive recognition certificates.

All press media in the world are invited to send their opinions to the branch offices of Prensa Latina, or by E-mail at [email protected] in Havana.

Votes will be received until Thursday, December 21, 2006, and results will be given one day after.

For those who need a guide to choose their preferences, Prensa Latina will release a list of candidates.

Media can vote for an athlete who is not on the list, if he is from Latin America or the Caribbean.

The 2005 poll chose Cuban javelin female thrower Osleidys Menendez, Brazilian soccer star Ronaldinho and the Brazilian male soccer team.

The voting was cast by 135 press media from Bolivia, Chile, Venezuela, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama, Mexico, the USA, and, in Europe, from Spain, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, with media of countries from Asia and Africa also participating.
