Cuban swimmer Hanser Garcia won the bronze medal in the men´s freestyle 100 meters event of the Ciudad de Barcelona Trophy, second stop of the Mare Nostrum circuit, when stopping the clocks at 48.83 seconds.
According to Radio Habana Cuba radio station, Garcia was only surpassed by Australian James Magnunsen (48.68), London 2012 Olympic runner-up, and Brazilian Bruno Fratus (48.82).
Australia´s Cameron McEvoy (48.86), Rio 2016 Olympic finalist, and Italians Luca Dotto (49.32) and Filippo Magnini (49.69) ranked from fourth to sixth, in that order.
With this performance, Garcia, who finished seventh in London 2012 Olympics, proves to be in a progressive phase of his training, after two years away from the pools.
The Cuban swimmer is getting ready to attend the World Championship next July in Budapest, Hungary.
