The Cuban duo of Nivaldo Díaz and Sergio Gonzalez made their debut with a victory at World Beach Volleyball Tour first stage played in Langkawi, Malaysia.
Diaz and Gonzalez, who had a great performance at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, defeated on Friday night 2-0, with  21-16 and 21-15 scores, the American duo of David Mackenzie and Andrew Dentler.
According to Radio Habana Cuba, with this result the Cubans advanced to the quarterfinals, stage in which they will face the winners of the match between Spaniards Raúl Mesa-Cristián García and hosts Idris Muhamad-Aham Shafwan.
The men's tournament will conclude on Sunday. It began with the participation of 16 duos from Austria, who entered two, the United States (1), Estonia (1), Germany (1), Serbia (1), South Africa (1), Czech Republic ), Spain (1), Cuba (1) and Malaysia (6).
