Although Samsung cell phones are already popular among Cubans, Samsung Electronics announced the opening soon of its first shop in a Havana beach area.
Samsung cell phones and tablets are on the offer at private cell phone workshops and at the shelves of the state-owned ETECSA Communications Company, but Samsung now wants to have its own shop here and sell directly.
Samsung's marketing manager for Latin America Gilberto Ramirez told reporters during the current Havana International Trade Fair that after several years having commercialized several products in our country, they are now looking forward to opening their own Samsung shop in a local market in the Havana Miramar beach area located near the corner of on 3rd avenue and 70th street.
Ramirez said that people can visit and purchase the phones they preferred, though he did not give any idea if prices will be lower than the current offer at Etecsa shelves where for instance, prices now range from 110, 155 CUC (similar to US dollars) for phones with 5.1 android system and even higher than that for latest models on the offer at private shops.
In a press release by Samsung, Ramirez explained that his company is interested in exploring what he call emerging markets in order to boost the company´s growth through new designs and technologies. (acn)
