Members of the Cuban community in Miami have decided to receive the first group of Cubans who, after being stranded in Costa Rica for two months, have begin their route to the US and they are already going through Mexico.
Some of the group of 180 Cubans (of the 11,000 who still await in Central America) have already arrived in the city of Laredo, Texas, where they were received by Alejandro Ruiz, founder of the nonprofit organization Cubanos en Libertad.
With 25 years of residence in the North American country, Ruiz founded the organization to guide and help his fellow immigrants. He also explains to newcomers on the process and procedures for entering the country, connects them with a business that offers customized transportation to the different destinations in the United States.
As it is likely that most Cubans are directed toward southern Florida, where is the largest community of their compatriots, the government of the city of Miami and school authorities from Miami-Dade County have been calling the federal government to collaborate with resources to cover the basic needs of newcomers.
