Uruguay wants to help Cuba reach food sovereignty through training programs, adaptation of technology and business management, as well as promoting "strong" bilateral trade, said yesterday Uruguayan Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, Tabaré Aguerre.
Aguerre said Uruguay, one of the leading exporters of milk powder to Cuba, wants to secure its participation in the agribusiness of the island, for which has focused on the "increased trade in milk" and a possible "internationalization of Uruguay's main dairy industry."
The work would focus on what "Cuba cannot produce and Uruguay can complete," said Aguerre, who explained that in the first phase exports of milk powder would continue and then through "joint ventures" the product would be reindustrialized and transformed into processed products on the island.
