Around 43 thousand patients have benefited from the new Cuban medication, Heberprot-P, Raudel Sosa, specialist of the National Patient Care Program with Diabetic Foot Ulcer told national media.
The highest figure is recorded since 2007, when the application of the drug to the population of the island began. Among the provinces with better indices of outcomes, are Las Tunas, Ciego de Avila, Havana and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud.
Sosa explained that of the total patients, six thousand 859 for the current year, of which 82% attend primary health care mainly with low-grade ulcers, according to medical standards.
Heberprot-P is unique, made in Cuba and prescribed for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcer based on the recombinant human growth factor, by intralesional infiltration at the site of the wound, informs the official site of this medicine on the Internet.
This drug has also begun applied in other countries like Venezuela and Ecuador, and is expected to use in Nicaragua.
