Roberta Jacobson, Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, said on Wednesday that her diplomats’ contacts in Havana with Cubans of all ideologies "will increase" when an embassy in Cuba to be open and urged the US Congress to lift the embargo to the island.
The official said the United States "will continue to raise their concerns about democracy, human rights and freedom of expression" in Cuba, and will seek to "be related to all Cubans to know their views on the best way for the country".
She also defended that changes in US regulations are "helping the emerging private sector in Cuba, which is already creating opportunities on the island" and that many US companies are already "seizing trade opportunities".
Jacobson also said there will be more discussions on the "future" on Human Rights "and US claims on expropriated property", after the triumph of Fidel Castro's revolution in 1959.
