The battle over Cuba in the Senate presented its credentials on Tuesday with two bills that promise a long stretch of hostilities between supporters and opponents of Washington’s new policy toward Raul Castro regime.

A bipartisan proposal by Democratic Senators Tom Udall (New Mexico) and Dick Durbin (Illinois), and Republicans Jeff Flake (Arizona) and Mike Enzi (Wyoming), identified as Cuba Digital and Telecommunications Advancement Act (Cuba DATA), aims to lift the existing restrictions for telecommunications and Internet companies to directly undertake operations on the island.

On the other hand, the Cuban-American Senator Marco Rubio and his colleague David Vitter (Louisiana) submitted a proposal to limit the effects of plans such as Cuba DATA until the Cuban regime not to compensate expropriated American citizens on the island.

The project is called Cuban U.S. Claims Settlement Act, and seeks compensation of US companies and families whose property was seized by Fidel Castro since 1960.
