Bert Koenders, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, said today in Havana that his country is interested in deepening cooperation with Cuba, to promote the process of economic reforms in the Caribbean island.
Some Dutch companies have operated "in Cuba for several years," said Koenders during his visit to the island, where he met with Vice President Miguel Diaz -Canel, among other senior representatives of the Cuban government.
"We believe that we can strengthen our cooperation in agriculture, since (the Cuban sector) requires significant reforms," he added. The head of the Dutch diplomacy also mentioned areas such as energy, education and food security as other possible areas of cooperation.
Netherlands, as noted Koenders , is Cuba’s main trading partner in the European Union behind Spain .
Koenders said today that his country will send a trade delegation to the island early next year.
