Alex Rodriguez returned to the Yankees after an absence of more than 17 months and made by connecting a single to left field in his first preseason game, which his team lost 3-1 Wednesday against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Rodriguez batted 2-1 with a walk. He was received between boos and applause as he entered the batter's box for the first time from a one-year suspension for doping.

A-Rod dressed white pinstripes of the Yankees for the duel which opens the preseason, instead of the traditional dark blue used in exhibition games.

Rodriguez struck the first four of 10 shots in three at-bats. In the second place the order as a designated hitter in New York, he struck out a couple of releases of Kevin Slowey 91 mph in the first inning. But 0-2 count managed paste the hit to left field.
