The environmental restoration of the Bay of Havana, its tax watershed and adjacent coastal area of interaction was analyzed in previous studies today in the fourth regular session of the Cuban Parliament.

In this area is home to nearly a million people and its territorial extension includes 10 of the 15 municipalities of the Cuban capital, in an area of about 85 square kilometers, noted Santiago Reyes, deputy director of the State Working Group Bay Havana, before the Committee on Education, Culture, Science, Technology and Environment.

The pollution load from the industrial sector was reduced in the Havana Bay by 76% since 1998. The expert stated that there are currently some 99 polluting sources, for which more than 230 thousand controls are established in order to promote integrated environmental management and sustainable development of the Bay of Havana, your tax watershed and coastal area interaction contiguous.

Several international projects in environmental education activities, professional exchange, advisory and technical assistance, monitoring and diagnostic support the implementation of the actions of sanitation and water treatment, said the specialist.

A master development sewer and storm drainage in the drainage basin of the Bay of Havana plan is essential to the continuation of decontamination, he said.

Following discussions, the Committee on Education, Culture, Science, Technology and Environment of the Cuban Parliament suggested the idea to create similar working groups that work in Havana Bay for environmental protection of other roads of the country was aired, as Mariel, Matanzas, Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba.

They suggested also take into account issuers of pollutants in the tax policy of Cuba.
