Specialists from Cuba and Ecuador meet in Quito to develop strategies and agreements to strengthen linkages and collaboration in the health sector between the two countries. According to Carina Vance, Minister of Public Health of Ecuador, one of the objectives of the meeting is the implementation of joint programs.

For two days, specialists and technicians from both countries will participate in workshops in which they will discuss the possibilities for cooperation in areas such as diabetes treatment, medications, vaccines, cancer fighting, among others.

According to Vance, it is one more step to revitalize the health care system in Ecuador, with objectives like change the curative approach for the precautionary approach and health promotion.

She also welcomed the support of Havana in developing the curriculum for training specialists in family medicine, thanks to which 500 are already preparing professionals in that area.

Meanwhile, Cuba's ambassador in Ecuador, Jorge Rodriguez, confirmed the readiness of the Caribbean island to transfer knowledge to Quito on issues such as the development of the pentavalent vaccine, created in the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of their country.
