The book entitled "Reading and rereading. Studies in literature and culture" (Lecturas y relecturas. Estudios sobre literatura y cultura) of the famous writer Roberto González Echevarría was the winner of the Annual Critics Award, awarded by the Cuban Book Institute. The author himself expressed surprise and satisfaction at the recognition. 

González Echevarría hopes his book "may have some impact on literary criticism in Cuba." He also expressed "it’s a surprise, a satisfaction; because it reveals that there are people who realize that my work transcends politics." The award will be presented on October 21 in the living Federico García Lorca, the Cultural Center Dulce Maria Loynaz.

The award-winning book includes essays such as "Love and law in Don Quixote" (Amor y ley en el Quijote), "Cecilia Valdés Cervantes: realism and social sciences" (Cervantes en Cecilia Valdés: realismo y ciencias sociales), "Album, corsages, Parnassus ..." (Álbumes, ramilletes, parnasos…) and "Literature, dance and baseball" (Literatura, baile y béisbol), among others.

González Echevarría, born in 1943 in Sagua la Grande, is Sterling Professor of Hispanic and Comparative Literature at Yale University and author of more than a dozen books.

The jury of the Annual Critics Award, chaired by Pedro Pablo Rodríguez, also selected the Estrías books (Soleida Rivers), El 71. Anatomía de una crisis (Jorge Fornet), La noria (Ahmel Eche¬varría), Aquí de pie (Teresa White), Pepe y la Chata (Nersys Felipe) and Paseos corporales y de escritura (Victor Fowler).
