The Cuban boxer Richard Abril defeated Finnish Edis Tatli in Hartwall Arena in Helsinki to stand as champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight bout despite having spent several idle months.

Since last March Abril hadn’t boxed, his last performance was when he defeated Sharif Bogere. However, during the final overcame the problems of inactivity and a hit to the body, his right hands and greater intelligence in the ring took advantage enough to qualify for the win.

The Finnish connected left hooks to Abril’s head, so it was a worthy opponent. However, the Cuban finally won two of the three judges' scorecards, with advantages of 116-112 and 117-111 while the third side equalized considered the fight 114-114.

With this result, April improved to 19-3-1 with 8 knockouts while Tatli lost his unbeaten staying with 23-1, 7 KO.
