The 9 th International University Congress, underway in Havana till February 14, is being attended by renowned personalities, such as Brazilian theologian Frei Betto, Nobel Peace Laureate Adolfo Perez Esquivel and political analyst Atilio Boron, both from Argentina.

Also participating is Cyprus' Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissoner of Education, Culture and Youth, who will give a lecture during the event.

The forum is gathering 3 thousand delegates from 60 nations of the world and it will focus on the contribution by students to local development, regional economic integration projects and the current challenges posed on inter-cultural dialog, among other subjects.

Also present are 240 university rectors, representatives of 17 international agencies and education officials from different countries, as well as the presidents of rectors' associations and university networks in solidarity with the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters who were given unfair sentences in the United States.

Participants will debate over 600 papers and will visit higher education centers.
