Famous Cuban playwright Abelardo Estorino, 2002 National Theater prize winner, died here today at the age of 88, sources said.

Born on January 29, 1925, Estorino bequeathed classics of Cuban theater such as "La casa vieja" (The Old House) (1964), and his version of the novel "Las Impuras" (The Impure), by Miguel de Carrion, in 1962.

He was also the author of the great Cuban musical comedy "Las vacas gordas" (The Fat Cows) (1962), along with the creative duo of Gerardo Piloto and Alberto Vera, as well as an extensive group of plays for children.
