The development and application of treatments to improve the aesthetics and functionality of the female sexual organs is now a strength in health centers of the Russian nation, Dr. Inna Apolikhina, a specialist in gynecology, said.

Laser techniques are applied to correct disorders, such as pain and vaginal dryness, especially in menopausal women, to improve their quality of life and eliminate the annoying symptoms, the expert told Prensa Latina during a Cuban-Russian forum on urology held in Havana.

It is a new, minimally invasive therapy, already extended through many countries. She explained that other surgeries, such as vaginal reconstruction, to restore damaged tissues, especially in young people who have had a traumatic birth, are also performed.

On the other hand, Oleg Apolikhin, director of the Moscow Scientific Research Institute of Urology, spoke about the importance of preventing male diseases, such as erectile sexual dysfunction (DSE), associated in most of cases to other systemic afflictions.

The DSE should not see it as a purely sexual disorder, but as an indicator of the health in men, as it is the prelude to other more serious diseases, such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular illnesses, metabolic syndrome, he said.
