Cuban Catholic bishops expressed their support for the initiative of Pope Francis on Syria and invited the Cuban people to join the day of world day of prayer and fasting for peace in Syria.

"We invite all the faithful, and all people of good will, to join such noble purpose," called the Catholic Bishops Conference of Cuba in a statement posted on its website.

Last Sunday, the Pope convened a day of Prayer and fasting peace in Syria and around the world for September 7th

Pope Francis also sent a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who hosted the G20 Summit, where he called for dialogue to find a solution "to prevent the useless slaughter to which we are witnessing in Syria."
