Hundreds of new physicians graduated in Cuba will return to Bolivia next weekend, to start their social service in rural areas, it was reported in this capital.

The director of Health Services, of the homonimous Ministry, Ruben Colque, said that about 780 new doctors, graduated of the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) will return home after studying for six years in Cuba.

According to Colque, the scholarship holders will first make the compulsory rural social service in the country, before moving to their final destinations, for which they will coordinate with the Departmental Health Services to grant the necessary spaces.

The Ministry of Health is developing a Training Specialties Plan from which the physicians trained in Cuba will be part, Colque said, who added that "the country demands for specialists in different areas, such as anesthesiologists, pediatric surgeons, nephrologists, and geriatricians."

Without counting the recent graduates, more than 3,800 Bolivian doctors were graduated in Cuba, and another 2,000 are studying in universities of the Caribbean island, in undergraduate and post-graduate courses.

In June, some 125 graduates in Cuba began working in the city of El Alto in the Mi Salud program, inaugurated by President Evo Morales, with the intention of ensuring free health services to the population, which is expected to bring throughout the country.
