The Republican tweeted that he would join Sen. Feinstein's spokesman confirmed her travel plans to the Daily News but said no details of the trip were available.

“We are glad to once again welcome Senators Feinstein and McCain, both of whom have previously visited, and Mr. McDonough,” Navy Capt. Robert Durand, Director of Public Affairs at the base, said in a statement.

President Obama has recently renewed his campaign promise to shut down the prison on the Naval Base.

The Pentagon has requested $450 million to keep the center operational but the president wants to return the detainees to their home countries and close the facility.

Guantanamo prisoners have grown increasingly restless and launched a hunger-strike four months ago to protest their conditions.

Doctors at the detention facility are having to force feed 41 of the 166 being held.

McCain, 76, has previously criticized the President's rhetoric over shutting down the base.

"There has been no coherent plan presented to the Congress of the United States of, how we do [deal with] these individuals? And one of them is not to send them back into the fight where they can kill more Americans," he told FOX News in May.

Sen. McCain has been raising his foreign policy profile of late and has increasingly been employing shuttle diplomacy.

The Arizona politician traveled secretly to war-torn Syria in late May to meet with rebels fighting to overthrow the Syrian government.
