With its women athletes excelling, this weekend Cuba won the Pan American Track Cycling Championships, held in Mexico City, with seven gold medals, four silvers and two bronze medals, reported Cuba’s JIT online website.

Cuban cyclist Lisandra Guerra picked up three gold metals (in the keirin, the 500-meter time trial, and for individual speed) and one silver, which resulted in her selection as the best competitor in the competition.

Also climbing to the top of the podium was Yudelmis Dominguez (for the team and point races), Marlies Mejias (omnium), and Arlenis Sierra (team race).

Meanwhile, excelling among the Cuban men was Yans Carlos Arias, with a bronze in the points and scratch races, and a third place in the madison, shared by Ramon Martin.

With this performance, the Cuban delegation surpassed the expectations of the coaching staff and the national leadership of the discipline, which hoped only to retain the island’s third place position achieved in recent events.
