The first secretary of the Central Committee (CC) of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Raul Castro, reiterated here the urgency in breaking the blockade of thought still persistent in the selection and preparation of youth as leaders in this country.

"In terms of cadre policy, we have taken positive steps, but the effort required is great and time is short," the also Cuban president said in the 5th CC Plenary Session of the PCC, held yesterday, Granma newspaper reports.

We have bright young people who we should guide and share the knowledge we have gained over many years of Revolution, Raul Castro stressed.

This statement was made by Raul Castro, according to the note, when submitting the proposal (unanimously passed) to elect Bruno Rodriguez, who serves as Foreign Minister, as a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC.

According to the daily, at the beginning of the meeting, Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, second secretary of the CC, presented the party's Statutes project; a result of the militants' discussion on the work of the organization, the note states.

Those changes contribute to easing the party's work and aligning it with demands of current circumstances, the report said about those statutes, later approved.

Machado Ventura explained the work done to control the implementation of the Guidelines endorsed by the 6th Congress and the Objectives of the First Conference of the Party, a task at the center of the work done throughout the year.

The progress of updating the economic model and making the economy perform, along with an agreement that the CC examine these issues in its sessions at least twice a year, were discussed at this meeting.

At the end of the meeting, concluded the text, the first secretary of the Central Committee called the country's leaders to continue preparing themselves, especially on economic issues, which are the basis for the progress of any society.
